Wine

Compatibility Layer allows binaries for a legacy or foreign system to run on a host system




Wine is a compatibility layer that is capable of running Windows applications Linux operating system. It is free and open-source software under the terms of GNU General Public License (GPL).


Wine is an implementation of the Windows Application Programing Interface (API) library, acting as a bridge between the Windows program and Linux.




Wine is available for all version of Linux, Mac OS and many more

  2. Not sure about Wine it makes your machine vulnerable to virus infection. Viruses can use the Wine environment. This issue needs to be addressed

  13. I started playing with WINE a couple of months ago, using it on a distro of Fedora. It's pretty easy to integrate but doesn't work with every Windoze App.

  15. I like using utorrent and also Linux so wine is good for running utorrent as it is not supported under Linux..

  17. Wine just might be able to run your Windows app on Linux, which would allow you to make the move to Linux.

  18. also, for everything else, you can easily virtualize a new windows operating system in virtualbox or qemu.

    i see no reason why people still pay for windows.

  29. I think the name Wine initially was an acronym for WINdows Emulator. Its meaning later shifted to the recursive backronym, Wine Is Not an Emulator in order to differentiate the software from other emulators
